Here are some pictures of the living room dressed for Christmas. I love having my Finnish design pieces mixed with some vintage ones finally around me. The divan table was created of old wine boxes which still have inside all the glasses and plates. I still use them as a storage and until I find the perfect vintage kitchen cupboard with glass doors I need to have all my treasures hidden inside of them.

Before leaving from Finland one of my best friends had her birthday party in our friend`s garden in the old Rauma. I fell in love with her garden and I already saw in my mind how I could make a photo shooting there for my baby clothing. Just watch out Elina, I will be there with a camera crew next summer… ;o)

Bike Lake Jumping World Championship in Rauma

Yesterday we went to see Bike Lake Jumping World Championship in Rauma and we had a lot of fun. It looked pretty crazy, but nobody got hurt, at least not badly. It was so funny to see so many people in the beach in my childhood`s home "lake". I have so many great pictures, but unfortunately I can`t add them all here. I am already waiting for next year`s event. Hopefully Markus and the boys will organize it again.

This one is for my friend Anne. She always starts to laugh when I tell an "Only in Italy"-story. I went to Calzedonia the other day to get some new socks to be worn with high heels. I need to tell you that "le calze= socks". I entered the store and found out that it was full of bikinis and bathing suits. I kindly asked the sales lady if they would have any socks in the sock store and she just looked at me strangely saying that yes, but in the fall. Stupid me to go to buy socks in the sock store and not understand that it is bikini season… meaning who uses socks in the summer time???? ;o)

Last fall I met Caroline from Brazil who was studying styling in Marangoni at a Halloween party of a friend . She wanted to do photo shooting with my baby clothing. It all kinda stayed behind for some months until this spring she contacted me again. We started to do research of what would be possible and what would I like. At the end she took care of everything always asking my opinion and I only lent her the clothing.

On the day of the shooting I went to Marangoni as well to see how everything was going and felt pretty emotional… I felt that I almost would like to study there again. After we finished I visited administrations upstairs and met Daphne. On my way down I needed to stop on the pattern floor to see if my teacher Mario would be there. How cool was it to be back there!

I have been crazy busy since Easter and the weeks have just flown by. I emptied my little camera last night and found a mixture of pictures that I already had forgotten that existed.

My dear friend Ela had a birthday dinner for her friends in Maison Espana and all I can remember of the over priced meny was that the bubbles and the cake were good (and eventually the only things that I had.) I still love you baby, but next time another restaurant please…..

We participated a surprise party organized for our friend Pinni in `Le Maschere` close to Porta Venezia with a lot of friends.

This little guy I found on top of my door one evening I returned home from a dinner in Naviglio. It is the first one I have seen in center Milan.

So happy to see Finlandia mugs in Italy. ;o)

Last night I went to see Cindy Lauper`s concert in Milan Jazzing Festival which was hold in Arena, in Parco Sempione. The weather forecast promised rain and I had heard from my friends that the mosquitos would eat you alive, but no rain and even for my own surprise no bites. Not a single one!!! Thanks to Sara`s Tropical spray I guess.

The lady was even better alive than on cd with an amazing voice. We had a great time with my girlfriends and for a once the men were left outside…

In the beginning of April we went to Camogli for a weekend. I have a crush for the Italian Liguria and this tiny village was new to me. I wanted to see if it would be as lovely as Portofino. Camogli was adorable and perfect for a long weekend trip. The Hotel Cenobio Dei Dogi was great with friendly crew. I definitely want to return there and the next time I hope I wont burn my skin like I did now…

I am slightly piggy of what I eat and after checking most of the restaurants we ended up to the famous La Rotonda for dinner.

I am already waiting for the next trip...

On Sunday morning we went to see the Brioni fashion show in Triennale. I really liked what I saw. The tones were perfect with a hint of bright colors which fascinates me at the moment.

It is funny to see which front row faces you have captured into the film by mistake when you download the pictures at home.

After the show and before lunch in Brera we took a walk through "Parco Sempione". Sunday afternoons in Italy are great. I wish that I could have more free time to enjoy the wonderful moments here.

Saturday evening we went to see the fashion show of Pierre Ancy. The young designers Christian Petrini and Nicola Russo had some fascinating pieces in the collection. I fell in love with the hats and the ear pieces. Unfortunately most of my pictures were foggy. Friday I got an invitation to go to see fall/ winter 2011-12 fashion shows of Costume National and Aigner. Costume National was in Piazza Duomo which was really cool when you got out and had the beautiful Duomo behind. Aigner was packed! I felt sorry for the people who had to work backstage, remembering how small it was the time I was working for Giuliano Fujiwara. Aigner was beautiful, I would love to wear some pieces from the collection.

My Christmas break was full of action. It all started with flight delays and missing luggages. Thank you Finnair! (Just for a record; 6 out of 8 of our flights were delayed and twice there were no luggage.) Now I remember why I prefer other airlines. I feel slightly sorry, because the crew has improved in the past years.

I love winter and the weather was just gorgeous the entire time. I was happy to being able to use all of my Moon-boots. ;o)

We had quite a lot of get togethers the whole time and I guess my mom would have liked me to be home more… Sorry Mommy!

On the New Years Eve my friend hosted a dinner at her home and we had "Angels and Demons" as our theme. It was fun!

We had time to do our annual walking trip on the frozen sea and afterwards had a barbecue in the forest with some hot chocolate. Just loved every minute outside with my loved ones.

We got invited to the Vares premium in Turku the last week and that evening will stay in our minds for ever with the broken bones and hospital trips…

All of this feels like ages ago when back in business in Milan. Now waiting for the Men fashion Week to start…

I made a little collection for Christmas. In my opinion all the little princesses can wear them all year round. For winter time you just wear them with a white long sleeved and some leggings or wool tights. When I was a child I had this book with little elves and my mom used to read it to me when I was younger and later I read it by myself. This little girl that I saw in a store window is exactly like the ones from the animated book… So cute!

Yesterday we went Christmas shopping to Duomo area. I didn`t think that I would find anything, but I am almost done with all the presents. The weather was miserable and the walking streets were packed with people. I don`t like crowds or lines so I will return for the last presents during the week when everybody else is working (hopefully).
Tiffany has a store right in the Duomo and I heard that they pay rent 30 000€ per day to have their store there. Quite a publicity campaign but I guess it is worth it. There was a huge line up to even enter the store.

The other week I was assisting a stylist for a photo shooting of an international magazine. I had a great time and met some wonderful people. The day was extremely long and the place where we were shooting was storage of a catering service. It was chilly the whole time. I thought that the place was really cool.

I slightly felt sorry for the model in tiny clothing, but she was professional so we did just fine.

The clothing was from Chanel to Benetton and I can tell that next spring will be full of bright colors. I can post the rest of the pictures later next year.

The”Derby” in Milan is always a big event. I got spoiled yesterday and got to go to see the game in San Siro. Like always in Milan there was traffic and no parking places. We eventually arrived to the stadium in time, but not into our seats.

Why do I always get the impression that the fans want to burn the stadium?

You could feel that two home town teams were playing. There were lots of fights and the paramedics were on the field pretty much half of the time. I was happy that Milan won… ;o)

This was the first time I wasn`t freezing in the game. I think that I had more clothing on than when it is -28C in Finland

I love fur in every way you can imagine wearing it. I know that it divides opinions, but I believe that it has been used forever so why not now. I buy it vintage from Finland and I have a strong belief that the animals have been treated fine.

This tiny outfit is made for a nephew of my friend. He is expect to be born in December. The jacket is wool with cotton lining and inside cotton wool to make it even warmer. The pants are wool with cotton lining. I hope that soon I get to do all the photo shootings with real babies. That would be so much cooler.

I never imagined that Halloween weekend would be this hard. I started partying on Thursday and I never really thought that I would make it until Sunday evening. That is why on Sunday afternoon I realized that I am still missing an outfit. Luckily there was one store open for carnival outfits and I got my witch hat. I made my dress and at the last minute I finished the hairy spider pin. The party at Matthew`s and Stefano`s place was great. The guys always decorate the entire house and it was really really cool. Too bad I don`t have that many nice pictures, but I will post a few at least. Now it is time to rest and start working again.

On Friday my friend from Paris threw his famous champagne party again. He had rented a private apartment in Brera and all the guest were to bring a bottle of champagne with them. I guess he thought that we would be around 100 people, but I am pretty sure that at some point of the night there were close to 150 persons at his place. It was crowded and Champagne was flowing. We had a great time and I met so many new interesting people. Can`t wait for him to come to Milan next time.

There are tiny little things that make you happy. I don`t own a car, vespa or bicycle in Milan. My vehicle is kickboard (“il monopattino” in Italian). I used to have a kickboard already in Finland and a few months ago I bought a new one here in Milan. I got sick of the public transportation always being late or then not coming at all. ITALIA!!!! My present kickboard goes so fast that I needed to buy a bell to warn people that I am coming. So if you see a blond girl with a kickboard ringing the bell like crazy in the streets of Milan... That must be me! ;o)

There are times when everything you plan goes wrong. The other night was like that. I wanted to attend a cocktail event at Spazio Krizia and go to the movies, but… Big BUT!!! So we ended up window shopping in Via Sant`Andrea and Via della Spiga. There is nothing wrong with that, but I prefer shopping when the stores are open. The evening ended better and we met some friends for drinks.

This new hit makes me smile every time I hear it in the radio. Now there is also a version in Italian.

Happened today: I went to return the modem of Fastweb (an Italian broadband telecommunications company) to a special store which isn`t open every day. I know it because I already spent one day running around Milan and trying to find a store that would take the modem back. So today I went there (first of course controlling and calling when they would be open after lunch break/siesta). They advised me that they can`t take the modem, because the “request of cancellation is still in process, contact the customer service please”. I closed the contract 3 months ago!!!

I decided that I am not going out of the store with the modem so I started calling and so did someone else behalf of me. After 2 people calling the customer service for 30 minutes there still was no answer. Of course no one from the store could call and help. It is the customer who calls. (You need to understand that this is 1/4 stores of Fastweb that take back the modems in Milan!) WTF !!!!!

Next I will get a bill of 200€ because I haven`t returned the modem!!!!! When I will say that they are ridiculous they say “fine, first pay the bill and then after we have processed your request you might get your money back... (It normally takes about 6 years).

These are the absurd things that make me more than furious in this country. People spend too much energy taking care of everyday life situations which shouldn`t be difficult at all.

Okay, can I now send a bill to Fastweb of all the hours I lost of work while trying to return their modem?

The question comes back into my mind that how in earth does this country functions???

Benvenuti al Sud

Last week we went to see a new Italian film by Luca Miniero called "Benvenuti al sud". I have gotten used to watching films in Italian by now, but this was too much even for me. There were parts that I couldn`t understand a word, but I guess I wasn`t the only one. The southern accent was pretty strong. I still can`t get enough of Piazza Duomo by night time. It is gorgeous! One of the best parts after getting out of the movie theater is to wander around the city center and to watch people… maybe get an ice cream or stop in a restaurant for a glass (...or two) of bubbles.

I was supposed to have a business meeting in Helsinki, but there came some last minute changes and my friend had to fly to New York. I already had my tickets and decided to use them anyways. I left Italy`s sunshine and arrived to chilly Finland. My dear friend had arranged a driver to pick me up from the airport. I thought that I would have plenty of time to leave my luggage, change my clothes, say “hi” to my friend and walk to Tennispalatsi for the premium of Wall Street 2, but instead I ended up almost changing my clothing and putting my make up in the back seat of the taxi. The women fashion week of Milan is almost over for spring/ summer 2011. Last week I worked for Gabriele Colangelo and I will post an article later about the week. I am having some trouble finding the right words how to describe everything. On Sunday evening there was a fancy party of Ferragamo after his fashion show. I would have loved to take pictures of the people there; the dresses, shoes and bags were all superb. Unfortunately I didn`t have the guts to disturb people and all I have is only a few pictures of the party. See the rest here.

Matrimonio di Cécile & Luca

Last weekend was the wedding of Cècile and Luca in Varese about an hour away from Milan. The sky broke before we even got to the church up in the hills. In Italy there is a saying “sposa bagnata sposa fortunata” meaning “wet bride, lucky bride”. I believe that even all the guest will be fortunate because it rained the entire day. La vacanza a Rauma

I planned to dedicate the entire July for my baby clothing line, but instead I had to concentrate on moving houses. What a nightmare! I was such a nerve- rack that I almost drove my friends insane. I have never left until the last minute buying tickets to fly home, but now I had no other choice. I flew via Copenhagen and I was surprised how nice the airport was. Luckily moving took and will still take lots of money, so I had to leave all the stores for the next time. I did drool behind the windows of Hermès and by mistake went in to try on a new bag from Mulberry, but survived to my Turku flight without any extra baggage. The rest of the story you find here.

Last Saturday after returning from Florence we left to Verduno in Piemonte. My friend had already invited me there a year ago, but I never had the time before. This weekend her father arranged a barbeque party and there was a village party after the dinnertime. I want to start my own line of baby clothing, but getting started and learning what is possible and what I should do isn`t that easy… Sure it would be easier if I would have a daddy to pay it all, but I do not. (Pappa betalar inte!) So I need to understand well how everything works before I start investing for my own brand. It is quite a long time since my last article. My past weeks have been insanely busy and I still can`t relax. Last weekend was devoted to Men Fashion shows, shopping, champagne and sleeping… Not bad! After the Men Fashion Week I also made a few days trip to Florence for Pitti Bimbo where I hoped to get some idea how to continue my baby clothing line. For the weekend we drove to Verduno in Piemonte for a barbeque party and on Sunday was my friends going away picnic in Parco Sempione. I wonder what I can fill into this coming week. Like always everything comes at the same time… On Saturday morning was the second wedding of the week of Simone and Federica. I have been waiting for somebody to get married for the past few years and now it was twice in 4 days. Friday evening was a huge birthday party of my sweethearts and of course I wanted to celebrate with them. I wasn`t having a blast anymore on Saturday morning. My life has been crazy busy for the past weeks, but that is nothing unusual. We hosted the annual Salone del Mobile (Milan Design Week), I had some friends over, I made a presentation of a snowboard collection for winter 2011/12 and then of course I had my normal work. The biggest disappointment was not getting my “Ruispuikula” (dark rye bread) delivery here due to the damn volcano.

Last week we had two weddings, one funeral and a great birthday party of my loved ones… and the normal 20 hour/ day working routines. I can`t wait for tonight when my mom gets here and I get to chill down a few days. Rest of the story is here.

Weekend a Parigi

It is a while since I was in Paris last time with my Dad and my little brother (who is not so little anymore). I wanted to get away from Milan for a long weekend and got a bargain of flights to the romantic French capital. I have some friends in the city, but for my surprise I didn`t get to see any of them. Canada Foto Diario

I had a great 3 weeks’ vacation in Canada. Finally the last week there, I got time to relax a bit more; sleeping long nights, having fun with Nikki`s Wii (running around her apartment and letting the neighbors enjoy my air boxing show), go to the movies, eat out, do some shopping and meet new people. The only sad thing was when leaving and saying goodbye to my dear friends and Canadian family.

Some 15 years ago I made a promise that I would return to Canada for the 2010 Winter Olympics. It was time to fulfill my promise. The past few weeks I have been working like crazy and by the time of Valentine`s Day I started to realize that I needed to pack my luggage for the coming 3 weeks. Leaving home to Finland for Christmas was slightly a disaster. Milan was packed with traffic and I couldn`t get a taxi in time. I missed the first train to Malpensa and I was worried of also missing my flight to Helsinki. I broke my Samsonite and I was scared what would come next. In the beginning of October we went to Io Sposa, wedding expo here in Fiera Milan. As a fashion designer I am always interested in seeing everything new and seeking interesting ideas.
